Macintosh Portable (1989)
The Macintosh Portable was Apple’s first battery-powered portable computer, and Apple’s first computer shipped in the traditional clamshell-style laptop configuration. Some considered the Portable a disappointment due to its large size, 16-pound weight, and extreme price ($6,500, the equivalent to $11,313 in today’s dollars). As a result, Apple sold relatively few Macintosh Portables. But the computer included a very sharp 640x400 active matrix screen and a uniquely repositionable keyboard/trackball combo.
